Our product is steel. Our strength is people.
I think I heard that phrase more than I heard c
lean your room.
That was the Dofasco manifesto and long running radio ad that I believe is still running today. My dad worked for Dofasco for over 30 years. He was a steel worker. He was a lifer and 12 hours shifts were his life. So its no surprise that when I arrived last Thursday for my gig at The Staircase Theatre I took Burlington St. to get there. Probably not the most scenic route to many, but to me its one of a few living visuals that settle me. Others being the The Skyway bridge, the GW Bridge into Manhattan, The ocean and the Big Blue Bug along interstate 95.... don't ask... some things just are.
But Thursdays drive down Burlington St. had me reminiscent of a simpler time. When driving my dad to work to use his car was the biggest order of business. When lining up in the cold to attend the Dofasco Christmas party was the best day ever invented.... well except for the year that I wanted to use my 'gift ticket' for a game called 'table top pool' and my older brother deviously fooled me into getting a
Spandau Ballet album instead since he would apparently get me the game on his own. I am still waiting for my table top pool. And really, Spandau Ballet? I think I would still opt for table top pool.
I know this much is true....
But this week is all about NYC shows with a stop over in Toronto.
9pm @ Caffe Vivaldi June 12th, NYC
8pm @ The Rivoli, June 13th, Toronto w/ Reid Jamieson
9pm @ The Rockwood Music Hall, June 14th, NYC
9pm @ The Delancy, June 15th, NYC
I will be doing the NYC shows with my good friend Amy Campbell who is really spectacular. Her song 'Oh Heart, Oh Highway' is the sonic equivalent to Burlington St. Her music is a must have!!!
Big Love
